Bishkek Health University signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding with the Medical University of Vienna this month, establishing a formal framework for academic cooperation, joint research and student exchange between the two institutions.

The agreement, signed during a ceremony at BHU's main campus, covers faculty exchange visits, collaborative research in public health and epidemiology, student mobility programs and joint curriculum development in nursing and healthcare administration.

Vice Rector for Research Dr. Nurbek Turdubekov, who led negotiations for the partnership, said the agreement opens significant new opportunities for BHU students and faculty.

"Vienna Medical University is one of Europe's most respected health sciences institutions. This partnership gives our students access to European research networks, and gives Vienna's students and faculty an opportunity to engage with Central Asian health challenges that are globally significant," Dr. Turdubekov said.

Under the terms of the agreement, up to 10 BHU students per year will be eligible to participate in semester-long exchange programs in Vienna beginning in academic year 2026-2027. A joint research project on non-communicable disease prevention in Central Asia is also planned to begin next year.
